Boycott School??? Really?

As many of you have heard by now, President Obama is planning to give a back to school address to students nationwide on September 8, 2009. Some on the right think this is let's just say...not a good thing. I am indifferent to the idea. I respect the man, I don't agree with him on much of anything, but I have a kooky feeling that Obama is going to take this opportunity to discuss the importance of education goals, civic duty and *gasp* personal responsibility...which call me crazy...are not horrible things to talk about to kids. Of course, it can be argued that it is a parent's job...blah, blah, blah. Newsflash: some kids have crap parents.

The speech was originally outlined in a way that suggested the president was asking for children to offer their advice to him, that language has been removed....the updated outline can be seen here.

Some conservative parents are keeping their cherubs home from school on September 8th. I'm not sure why. Kids are already liberalized in the public school system. They seem to learn more about energy saving tips than they do on the subject of grammar and well, there's all that talk about penises and vaginas in kindergartens across America that gets cons all kinds of worked up.

Teaching your child to avoid listening to those you disagree with is kind of silly and can backfire. Fear not, I once heard Jesse Jackson speak at my school...my heart didn't all of the sudden start bleeding...quite the opposite, in fact...I went home and thanked my dad.

Would be a smart post if you weren't just parroting your friend's ideas. Buy a clue, honeybun.

  2. Princess Beaverhausen:

So...lemme get this straight...sharing a point of view with someone else and putting my thoughts in my own words = I am a parrot. Gotcha. I guess it's a good thing that I hate Jimmy Buffet.

  4. So...now it's not my 'own POV', and I don't/can't think??? Yeah...you're right. Hey...maybe, I didn't write it either. It really is crazeee to 'think' that more than one person shares similar ideology. I wonder how the founding fathers decided whose idea they were gonna roll with? Hmmmmmmmmm

  5. Kind of a huge straw man in your post. Big difference between teaching your child to "avoid" those they disagree with, and helping them dodge tricky moral equivalence and social engineering perpetrated against them by authority figures they look up to.

  6. I see this as an opportunity to teach your child that you can respect an authority figure, while disagreeing with them politically. They are your kids, they are armed with your values. And, you may be surprised, there may be some common ground here (you and Obama are both caring, loving parents after all). I don't think it's a good course of action to say: if you don't like the [potential] lesson: skip it (especially when it comes to school).

  7. There is a distinct difference between a lesson, which my kids get all the time when they come home with disastrous information, and this enlistment into probama activism. Sometimes you teach them to listen and disagree.

OTHER times, you teach them to RESIST. I plan to tell them exactly why they are home.

  8. Also, you aren't even considering the responsiblity we have as parents and concerned Americans to tell the left when they've gone too far. All they learn from you in this case is that you're fine with them attempting to indoctrinate your kids. "By all means, carry on." you tell them. And carry on they will.

Sanguine or docile responses are why our schools are experimental grounds for lefty propaganda in the first place. Is there no line? No point at which you say enough? Anything goes and we'll have a chat later?

  9. Oh, and PrincessBeaverhausen is a douche. (can I say that here?)

  10. Caleb, what is it exactly you're trying to protect your kids from in these "lefty propaganda" training grounds? That evolution is real? That safe sex involves using a condom because abstinence usually fails? And having safe sex, or a baby, is a personal choice because it's your own body?

I'm genuinely curious. You really think sheltering your kids is helpful?

  11. Caleb...I agree, public schools are already breeding grounds for liberal ideas...which is why September 8th is kind of just another day at the office for our kids.

And you, my friend can say anything you want, here!

Caleb Howe, Jr for POTUS 20??

  12. E in SD, you've mistaken me for someone who treats lefties spewing garbage as adults worthy of debate. Your bad.
